Materials Manager

Position Description

The Materials Manager will lead and coordinate all the purchasing and inventory functions of the company. The Materials Manager is responsible for ensuring parts are procured for production in a timely manner with appropriate quality and cost. The Materials Manager reports to the Manufacturing Operations Manager and will work closely with other management staff in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

Primary Objectives

  • Ensure that purchased materials are delivered on time, correct, and complete
  • Control inventory levels to agreed upon targets
  • Qualify vendors and monitor performance
  • Generate annual cost savings from purchased parts
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in receiving, cycle counting, and invoicing
  • Supervise buyers and inventory control staff

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensure production demands for purchased are met on time – place purchase orders, considering best price, quality, availability and reliability
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategy to meet SCI growth and sourcing requirements
  • Identify, develop and manage effective relationships with existing and potential suppliers to meet established cost, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Ensure incoming parts meet the appropriate quality standards
  • Establish, implement and manage a system that evaluates, monitors, and reports supplier performance.
  • Ensure appropriate incoming quality procedures are followed
  • Ensure orders are placed early enough and followed up on so as to limit incoming freight charges
  • Develop backup suppliers for critical parts
  • Manage NCR process for purchased parts
  • Analyze data to ensure accounting records are accurate and current
  • Establish credit information and terms with new suppliers
  • Work with direct reports to monitor their initial ordering of routine, established purchase orders. Set the expectation of what they should be ordering as a routine and established product or part.
  • Write new, and revise current procedures as needed that are relative to the purchasing and receiving functions of the company. Train on new or revised procedures.
  • Monitor and purchase consumable parts and tooling, sustaining appropriate stock levels

  • CPSM certification preferred but not required

Machinist, Level 2, Shift 3

Position Description

Employees who are Machinists – Level 2 are responsible for ensuring that all production operations are manufactured in a timely and efficient manner.

Our Machinists are also responsible for ensuring that all quality standards and procedures are upheld on the production floor.

Machinists are directly responsible to the Machine Shop Supervisor and may work closely with the Engineering staff in carrying out the production or R&D operations of the company. This is the experienced level machinist; employees perform a full range of machinist assignments using independent judgment to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations.

Shift 3 (3pm – 1:30am) pays a 25% shift differential

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Produce a quality product in an efficient manner
  • Accurately translate blueprints to manufacture parts
  • Follow all work orders and travelers that the company will provide
  • Follow all quality standards that are set by the company
  • Follow all safety rules
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and debris free work area

Primary Objectives

  • Practice lean manufacturing skills in all areas of the shop
  • Maintain a positive attitude and strive for continual improvement
  • Reduce manufacturing costs when possible
  • Remain proactive at all time

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Strong verbal and math skills
  • Great organizational skills and be able to multi-task
  • 2 yr. degree, AAS, or 5 years. experience desired
  • Manually dexterous and physically able to operate the machinery and computers required to complete tasks
  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs. and be able to stand on your feet for up to 8 hours a day
  • For an employee to move to level 3 he or she will have had to have 8000 hours at level 2 and approval from the Plant Manager.

Senior Applications and Development Engineer

Position Description

The Senior Applications and Development Engineer is responsible for ensuring customers receive the technical information, support, and solutions that enable them to buy, effectively install and integrate, and use SCI products.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Respond directly to customer requests for specific or new information not currently available about SCI products
  • Provide technical sales and service support to customer sites
  • Participate in the development of new products, technologies and applications
  • Create and apply physics-based numerical simulations of complex, electromagnetic and mechanical systems to predict behavior and/or patterns of operation
  • Coordinate internal testing or process validation in response to customer requests or new product development requirements
  • Promote SCI products through development and presentation of technical papers at conferences, workshops and trade shows
  • Develop and secure intellectual property
  • Create technical and educational materials to educate customers and internal personnel

Primary Objectives

  • Act as a liaison between customers and engineering to ensure customer needs are defined and the correct SCI products or solutions are developed, qualified and offered commercially
  • Promote SCI products
  • Resolve post installation product issues occurring at customer sites
  • Develop and maintain an expert process knowledge
  • Apply scientific principles to solve complex interrelated problems

Job Requirements

  • 4-year Engineering or Physics degree, Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years’ work experience working directly with rotary magnetron cathodes, processes, and applications
  • Experience with 3-dimensional design platforms – Solidworks, AutoCad, etc.
  • Experience with physics-based numerical simulation platforms – COMSOL, ANSYS, etc.
  • Must have great organizational skills and be able to multi task across products and sites
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Best in class written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Able to travel up to 40%

Primary Objectives

  • Subject matter expert on SCI products
  • Act as a liaison between customers and engineering to ensure customer needs are defined and the correct SCI products are defined and offered.
  • Provide product support at OEM, customer, and rep sites –integration, installation, training, and service
  • Resolve post installation product issues occurring at customer sites
  • Promote SCI products

Job Requirements

  • 4-year engineering degree

  • Knowledge of electrical controls systems and interfaces for industrial vacuum technologies
  • Knowledge of PLC communication protocols a plus
