Senior Applications and Development Engineer

Position Description

The Senior Applications and Development  Engineer is responsible for ensuring customers receive the technical information, support, and solutions that enables them to buy, effectively install and integrate, and use SCI products.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Respond directly to customer requests for specific or new information not currently available about SCI products
  • Provide technical sales and service support to customer sites
  • Participate in the development of new products, technologies and applications
  • Create and apply physics-based numerical simulations of complex, electromagnetic and mechanical systems to predict behavior and/or patterns of operation
  • Coordinate internal testing or process validation in response to customer requests or new product development requirements
  • Promote SCI products through development and presentation of technical papers at conferences, workshops and trade shows
  • Develop and secure intellectual property
  • Create technical and educational materials to educate customers and internal personnel

Primary Objectives

  • Act as a liaison between customers and engineering to ensure customer needs are defined and the correct SCI products or solutions are developed, qualified and offered commercially
  • Promote SCI products
  • Resolve post installation product issues occurring at customer sites
  • Develop and maintain an expert process knowledge
  • Apply scientific principles to solve complex interrelated problems

Job Requirements

  • 4-year Engineering or Physics degree, Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years’ work experience working directly with rotary magnetron cathodes, processes, and applications
  • Experience with 3-dimensional design platforms – Solidworks, AutoCad, etc.
  • Experience with physics-based numerical simulation platforms – COMSOL, ANSYS, etc.
  • Must have great organizational skills and be able to multi task across products and sites
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Best in class written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Must be able to travel up to 40%

Work Environment

Office setting and medium scale manufacturing facility

Physical Demands

This position will require working on a computer at a desk and occasionally working  in a shop floor environment for many hours.

Quality Control Technician

Position Description

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring that all quality standards and procedures are performed on all products throughout the entire process. The Quality Control Technician is also responsible for documentation that is related to quality in its entirety. 

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Direct process and product testing to ensure quality standards are met
  • Conduct calibrations of all tools and equipment involved in the quality system
  • Issue non conformance reports when defects are identified
  • Identify and remove constraints to production
  • With Quality Engineer conduct audits on our quality system as needed

Primary Objectives

  • Ensure all materials, components, and tools meet all standards
  • Control and ensure all quality measurements are performed on outgoing product
  • Ensure all relevant regulations, work rules, and quality procedures are followed on the production floor

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience in quality field, manufacturing environment
  • Ability to operate various inspection tools, e.g., micrometer, calipers, CMM
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and translate blueprints
  • Great organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a “team” environment
  • Experience in ISO-9001 manufacturing setting preferred
  • Independent quality certification preferred 

Work Environment

50/50 shop floor and office

Physical Demands

This position may require working  at a desk or standing in a shop floor environment for many hours

Quality Engineer

Position Description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for improving product quality at SCI. This position will work across all functional departments.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Administer the SCI quality system
  • Execute quality improvement projects on SCI products
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures
  • Qualify, recertify and disqualify new vendors
  • Improve of vendor quality
  • Supervise the Quality Assurance Technician

Primary Objectives

  • Keep the company up to date on procedure updates, training and auditing
  • Capture cost savings from quality improvement projects
  • Reduce vendor defect rate

Job Requirements

  • 4-year engineering degree
  • 5+ years’ work experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings
  • Great organizational skills and be able to multi task across products and sites
  • Best in class written, verbal, and presentations skills
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Experience/certification in Lean Six Sigma preferred
  • Experience in an ISO-9001 manufacturing setting preferred
  • Independent quality certification preferred

  • Respond directly to customer requests for specific  or new information not currently available about SCI products
  • Define, develop, and implement the required interfaces to OEM or customer electrical control systems
  • Deliver product training at SCI, Reps, OEMs, and SCI’s customers locations
  • Provide technical service and sales support at customer sites
  • Participate in the development of new products and applications
  • Additional technical projects as assigned

Primary Objectives

  • Subject matter expert on SCI products
  • Act as a liaison between customers and engineering to ensure customer needs are defined and the correct SCI products are defined and offered.
  • Provide product support at OEM, customer, and rep sites –integration, installation, training, and service
  • Resolve post installation product issues occurring at customer sites
  • Promote SCI products

Job Requirements

  • 4-year engineering degree
  • 5+ years’ work experience working directly with rotary magnetron cathodes, processes, and applications
  • Knowledge of electrical controls systems and interfaces for industrial vacuum technologies
  • Knowledge of PLC communication protocols a plus
